Exotic Pets – a Talking Points Lesson Plan for English Reading & Speaking
This is part of the Talking Points lesson series for Intermediate to Advanced students.
Many people like to keep pets that most of us would regard as strange or even dangerous.
I am talking about huge spiders, poisonous snakes, lizards, assorted rodents and other wildlife.
Is it reasonable for a person to keep pets like this in their home?
You may find that many of your students have pets of their own. But these are usually a dog, a cat, fish, a bird or a turtle.
But a six-foot python?
Of course, one of two of your students may have a very strange pet – this is the perfect time to get them to talk about it in class.
Gauge the reaction in class and as the teacher you can act on that and create more discussion.
But this should be a highly engaging and interesting subject to your students. Perfect for your English or ESL class and sure to create lots of conversation and debate.
The lesson comes complete with:
• a 500-word article
• a table of essential vocabulary
• a big list of questions for discussion
Start the class with the three opening questions and then do the reading. Then you can go through all the vocabulary – or set it as homework for the students to do later.
Then there is a big list of questions that are designed to get your students talking.
It comes in easy to use PDF format, ideal for printing for your needs. Use it again and again for your English/ESL classes.
