Instagram Influencers – a Talking Points Lesson Plan for English Reading & Speaking

This is part of the Talking Points lesson series for Intermediate to Advanced students.

There are not many people in the world under 40 who do not know about Instagram. If you are teaching teenagers they should all be very much aware of this app – or they may have a similar app in their own country.

Please use your discretion as the subject deals with depression. Many Instagram influencers have expressed how they now have feelings of depression and anxiety from the stress of being constantly under public scrutiny.

This is the kind of subject that can divide the class in their feelings. Some would argue there is nothing wrong with an app like Instagram – while others may see the harm that it can cause to vulnerable young people.

One thing this lesson will provide is the chance for your students to discuss and debate their views in English. This lesson plan is great for any English/ESL class. Also great for any IELTS speaking class.
